Educators are Innovators

The mission of Avenues for Change is to connect educators with respected scholars and experts in the field who share our goal of teaching about the Holocaust, other genocides, and various human rights topics while fostering empathy and encouraging action on future human rights issues.
Our Work:
We work with scholars and experts to center Holocaust testimony—particularly the lived experiences of survivors such as Leon Malmed—as a meaningful entry point for teaching the Holocaust. By grounding learning in personal narratives, educators can help students connect emotionally and intellectually with history, deepening their understanding of the complexities of genocide and human rights. This approach extends beyond the Holocaust to include the study of other genocides, encouraging critical thinking, empathy, and a sense of responsibility. Through testimony-driven education, Avenues for Change empowers both educators and students to recognize injustice and consider their role in responding to human rights issues in the present and future.
